Arizona Department of Transportation’s I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement project significantly reduced travel times and congestion along one of the busiest stretches of I-10 – the state’s largest urban freeway. Running 11 miles in length and supporting more than 4,600 businesses and nearly 250,000 residents from the cities of Phoenix, Tempe, Chandler and Guadalupe, the $815 million project delivered substantial benefits to the more than 300,000 vehicles that pass through the area on an average weekday. Upon completion, the project widened I-10 to six lanes, improved access to local businesses and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, added a high occupancy vehicle or HOV lane to support carpools, built collector-distributor roads to separate local and through traffic, and included new multi-use bridges that safely connect both sides of the freeway for pedestrians, cyclists, and equestrians – delivering long-term benefits for generations to come. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act provided approximately $357 million to support the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement project; funding that helped modernize the freeway to meet the region’s rapid growth.
