Nebraska Department of Transportation’s 192nd Street, Omaha project delivered a modernized interchange designed to accommodate significantly higher traffic volumes while supporting pedestrian access and maintaining a footprint similar to the existing configuration. The $15.2 million initiative required precise technical solutions to transition a formerly rural interchange into a more sophisticated design capable of managing growing traffic demand in a constrained urban setting. With the interchange – where 192nd Street passes under U.S. 6 – nearing capacity and serving critical destinations such as schools and hospitals, upgrades were essential to support Omaha’s long-term commercial growth. Project improvements included pavement replacement; bridge repairs; ramp reconstruction; new curb inlets and storm sewer infrastructure; Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps and sidewalks; upgraded traffic signals; and enhanced street lighting. The installation of a diverging diamond interchange reduced left-turn conflicts and streamlined traffic flow, providing faster, safer access to Methodist Women’s Hospital – the region’s largest women’s healthcare center – for first responders, healthcare workers, patients, and visitors.
