Utah Department of Transportation’s Roads to Recreation Traveler Information Program helps travelers plan ahead and navigate the state’s most popular recreational destinations. The $1 million initiative addresses severe congestion, limited parking, and unpredictable travel conditions in Utah’s highdemand destinations, including the Cottonwood Canyons, Wasatch Back, Zion area, and Ogden Valley – home to major ski resorts, state and national parks, and popular reservoirs. These areas regularly experienced long vehicle queues, early parking closures, and unreliable travel times during peak seasons. One of the biggest challenges was managing high demand within existing infrastructure due to limited access to realtime, actionable travel, parking, and transit information. Utah DOT responded with a costeffective, operationsfocused approach that maximized existing assets and helped travelers make informed decisions before and during their trips. The program supports Utah’s recreationbased economy by delivering realtime transportation information to a large, primarily outofstate audience, which accounts for up to 61 percent of overall engagement. By providing timely updates on traffic, road conditions, transit, and parking, the program enables visitors to better plan their travel and navigate busy destinations more efficiently.
