Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s US 70 Roosevelt Bridge Causeway Repair project focused on rapidly stabilizing the causeway after engineers closed the bridge over Lake Texoma just six days before Memorial Day 2025, when record rainfall and high winds caused severe erosion to the mile-long structure. The initiative allowed for restoring limited access, and maintaining safe travel during a peak holiday period—while keeping the public informed to minimize disruption to local communities and economies.  This crucial corridor carries around 8,500 vehicles daily – directly impacting thousands of residents and visitors. While the bridge itself remained structurally sound, the damage threatened access along this vital route. Oklahoma DOT crews repaired the storm damaged causeway while keeping traffic moving, maintaining one open lane in each direction to preserve connectivity between Marshall and Bryan counties. This $6.17 million project ensured continued travel along a critical regional link serving northern Texas and southern Oklahoma, supporting daily commuters, tourism, and commerce during peak season. Full access was restored ahead of the July 4 holiday, when traffic demand was highest.
