Arkansas Department of Transportation’s I-430 Bridge Repair Over Colonel Glenn Road project delivered a rapid, effective response to a serious safety incident on a major corridor serving Little Rock. On March 27, 2025, a trash truck struck an interstate bridge, severing an exterior steel girder and creating a large hole in the bridge deck. The damage posed an immediate risk to motorists and required closures on both I‑430 and Colonel Glenn Road, a critical connection to the interstate system. Arkansas DOT personnel mobilized immediately, working long hours to stabilize the structure the day of the incident. Using in‑house crews, an inventoried steel girder, and locally sourced materials, the department implemented a fast, cost‑effective repair strategy to minimize disruption. On March 31, crews began full replacement of the damaged beam and reconstruction of the concrete deck. The new girder installation and deck repairs were completed by April 2, allowing all lanes to reopen by April 3 – less than a week after the initial impact at a cost of just $82,000 in total. Completing the work ahead of forecasted rainfall prevented further delays and prolonged closures. While the project did not directly receive Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funding, broader IIJA investments helped ensure maintenance crews were available to respond quickly.
