Georgia Department of Transportation’s Villa Rica, Georgia I-20 Bypass is a strategic investment that balances regional freight mobility with local quality of life, supporting growth in Villa Rica and Carroll County while improving access to businesses across West Georgia. However, an increasing volume truck traffic frequently exited I-20 – a major freight corridor for the region – in Villa Rica to reach destinations without direct interstate access, creating congestion, safety concerns, and operational strain on nearby city streets. Developed to address these challenges, the Georgia Department of Transportation’s I-20 bypass provides a more efficient route for freight traffic; reducing through‑truck volumes in the city while preserving mobility, safety, and quality of life for residents. The $33.67 million project delivered immediate improvements by redirecting truck traffic away from local roads, significantly reducing congestion and improving travel times for local drivers. Neighborhood and downtown travel are now more predictable and efficient, creating a safer roadway environment. The project also incorporated forward‑looking multimodal elements, including a multi‑use path culvert that supports future pedestrian and cyclist connectivity. This feature ensures the corridor can safely accommodate all users as the area continues to grow.
