District Department of Transportation’s $380 million bridge replacement project improved safety and mobility and reduced congestion by transforming a heavily traveled route in Washington D.C. with new bridges to separate local traffic from freeway traffic. The project provided vital connectivity to I-695 and DC-295, two of the most heavily travelled freeways in the area. Several multimodal features improved transportation options for travelers including trails, overlook points, better access to bike-sharing stations and the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail on both sides of the river. The investment supports economic growth and development to position the Anacostia River shores as a world-class waterfront.
