Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department’s $600,000 investment allowed the ongoing operation of the last operational ferry in the state located in Peel in northern Arkansas. Using grant money and matching funds, officials met the demand and replaced the six-car barge with a twelve-car barge to increase capacity and reduce travel times. The new barge doubled the ferry’s carrying capacity and has been efficient in getting more vehicles across the lake in a timely fashion, while guarantying a quick and convenient way to get motorists on Highway 125 across Bull Shoals Lake and into Missouri for years to come.
